Children's Books!

Hi. Sorry I've been absent for a while. Lots of changes, I've moved to Seattle, started a new job and am focusing on creating my own picture books. I've been reading lots of books and starting to work on a few of my own. There's a lot to learn about picture books; as simple as they are they're not easy to make!

Been A While...

It's been a long time, sorry for anyone who checks this. I'm still drawing, and in anticipation of the new Batman movie, here are some of my batman doodles.

Mel's Cafe Drawing and Branding.

Sorry for the lack of posts, I've been really busy with Freelance work for two companies. I'm also learning about licensing through LIMA's CLS program. I've been paired up with Jerry Houle as my mentor. He's a really great guy, full of energy and life and has a lot of experience in setting up licensing programs. He's worked on licensing programs for the Muppets, Curious George and the Velveteen Rabbit.

I talked to him yesterday and he had a lot of really interesting things to say about licensing and building a brand. A brand is broadcasting "yourself." In doing so, you need to be authentic and true to who you are. The brands that really work are the ones that people connect to and identify with. I'm looking at the stuff I love, and it's all so unique and different because it comes from a genuine place. Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, Schulz & Leo Leonni. I never thought of branding in that way, and I'm interested in learning more. Anyway, hope you like the doodly sketch.

Jai's Room

My best friend, Nilesh had a baby about three weeks ago. In celebration of the baby and as a gift, I painted little Jai's room. The project took about two days from start to finish. It was a lot of fun painting the room and I added little mice playing in the grass as a tribute to Leo Leonni. Happy New Year!

Ink Doodles

I've been playing around with ink splashes and trying to be more spontaneous with my work. It's fun, here are a few explorations.
